That first backpacking trip I took back when I was still in high school has placed memories within me that will stay for a lifetime. For the most part they contain one that have two brothers being one with nature and all it had to offer. Yet, somewhere inside me there are some unfortunate thoughts that have given me worthy lectures about this sport. Had we only done the necessary investigations before following the trail on our trip, we could have avoided many of those errors. My trips outdoors never took more than two days. These days my brother gets more action participating in more four to five day trips. You may wonder how he can survive longer days in the outdoors. The gear he has with him in trips and a few guidelines that he follows is the secret to lasting longer.

Prior to jumping in the adventure there are some conventions that people should study. You should always bring the right type of clothes first off and have the right type of backpack. The second is to select a light, wellbuilt tent and sleeping bag and the third is to pack only necessary items in order to maintain a light load. More often then not I would see people have so many things with them on trip and to top it off bring the wrong kind of gear along.

From the feet and then all the way up is how you should equip yourself declared my brother. The fundamental need in backpacking is the right kind of boots that will suit you. Get boots that have extra space for your thick clad feet as well as remember that your toes should be safe from the front of the boot so that no discomfort is felt when walking downhill. The backpack is also something you cannot go hiking without. A nylon made backpack with frames that can go bigger is the ideal one for an outdoor trip. Additional space on the outside of the back can help you organize but can also lure you into brining additional things you may not need.

A backpack with 5,000 cubic inches capacity is usually enough for a weeklong trip. Always pack clothes and socks that are enough for the trip but not to over pack. Rain suits should also be part of what you have packed.

The base of your tent should be water resistant. A tent that has a big space is what you may want to bring along so that you will have enough room for your equipment. For more strength, the seams should be lap felled. Make sure the tent will become as water proof for a long time like applying so water repellent spray.

It is always nice to have enough food but too much may add more weight on your load. Dehydrating the food that you will bring along with you can help you carry less weight. Freezer bags can keep food clean and dry and it is equally important to take with you a small pot for when you cook. It would also be easier for you to cook if you bring a Bunsen burner with you.
